DEAR EDITOR:

I believe the city water department has a problem. The Dispatch has reported three incidents of large water bills. As all three episodes involve the magnitude of 98,000 gallons of water, I suspect the billing software program has a problem.

It could be that the meter “rolls over” and the billing program does not handle it properly.

In any event the city should research the problem and solve it, rather than mitigate the bill when the homeowner complains.
