GILROY – A two-car collision on congested state Highway 152 left three Sunnyvale residents injured.

The accident happened about 11 a.m. Friday, just east of Gilroy, between Holsclaw and Frazer Lake roads.

One of them, 71-year-old driver Robert Sassoon, was flown to a San Jose hospital for treatment of neck pain and cuts to his head, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

An ambulance took the passenger in Sassoon’s BMW sedan, 57-year-old Kathleen Sassoon, to Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy for treatment of chest and neck pain.

In the other car, driver Dewell Goodman, 75, complained of leg pain.

CHP officers said Goodman and the Sassoons were driving eastbound on 152 when traffic slowed suddenly. Goodman, traveling behind Sassoon’s BMW, told CHP officers he braked at about 40 mph, but his Mercury Grand Marquis did not stop in time to avoid rear-ending the BMW.
