Three Gilroy women received an award for their outstanding service to the South County community.
Sister Rachela Silvestri of Saint Louise Regional Hospital and Lillian Castillo, a nutritionist with the county health department, will both receive awards Feb. 29 from the Santa Clara County Office of Human Relations. The women are co-chairs of the South County Collaborative Nutrition and Health Committee and work to increase access to quality health care and create health care equity for low-income and minority residents of South County.
Gavilan sociology professor Leah Halper will also be recognized with an award for her work with the county’s mediation programs and her work with Speak Out, a forum for a community dialogue aimed to resolve problems stemming from discrimination and hatred.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose.
