Good Ole Boys Rally to Defeat Team Beefy

Gilroy – The Titans clinched the second-half Men’s E League pennant Thursday with a 22-7 victory over Claddagh Brew Crew.

Craig Courtney, David Rose, Jim Reimer and Ryan Romero each collected four hits as the Titans moved to 5-0 and a two-game lead with one week left in the regular season schedule. The Titans will play Walton & Sons Masonry in the best 2-of-3 Championship Series beginning Thursday July 12 at 6:30pm at Las Animas.

Lee Liberatore went 3-for-3 and Walter Margetich went 2-for-2 for the 3-2 Brew Crew.

Heinzen Manufacturing trimmed the Players 19-13 by scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 12-11 deficit.

Mark Logan stroked four hits and Luke Corona and Manny Freitas each managed three RBI for 3-2 Heinzen Manufacturing. Gary Barboa powered a triple and two doubles for the Players, plating five runs.

Tony’s Embroidery upset Victory Outreach 13-11 Thursday to take over first place in the Men’s EE League at Christmas Hill Park.

Henry Maquinalez hit an RBI-double and John Ceballos Sr. followed with a two-run single in the sixth inning as Tony’s Embroidery finished the half with a 5-1 mark.

Victory Outreach is tied for second at 4-1 with the good Ole Boys. Victory Outreach plays the Good Ole Boys at 7:40pm on Thursday July 5 at Christmas Hill. The winner of that game will play Tony’s Embroidery at 6:30pm on Wednesday July 11 at Christmas Hill for the second-half title.

Jerry Johnston went 3-for-3 with a home run for Tony’s Embroidery. Jose Esquivel powered three hits and Brandon Maron tripled and doubled for Victory Outreach.

The Good Ole Boys remained in contention with a 16-1 win over SVCC Men of Thunder. Kris Puthoff hit two home runs and Jeff Speno cracked a triple, double and single for the Boys. Mike Swanson doubled and scored on a Mike Reis single for the Men of Thunder.

The Assassins snuck past Team Beefy 12-10 behind a seven-run outburst in the fifth inning. Gabriel Corona led the Assassin comeback with a two-run double. Brian Rodriguez added three hits and scored three Assassin runs. Trevor Sheedy and Gene Losongco each lined a two-run double for Team Beefy.

Los Gigantes earned the second-half Men’s CC League title with a 12-11 squeaker over the Las Animas Sweepers Wednesday at Las Animas.

Kenny Hopf homered and Josh Gonzalez and Mike Montenegro delivered three hits apiece as Los Gigantes (5-1) built a 12-10 lead with one inning to play.

The Sweepers had Emiliano Arde on second base with one out in the final frame when Kevin Orosco looped a hit to leftfield. Arde scored and Orosco went to second on the throw to the plate. When a throw to second skipped past the infielder, Orosco raced to third and headed home. Gonzalez, the second baseman, threw to catcher Steve Christian at the plate and Christian was able to hold onto the ball as Orosco reached home to record the second out. An infield out completed the Los Gigantes win, pushing the team into the best 2-of-3 Championship Series against the Platinum Roofing Slammers.

Brian Cortez launched a two-run home run and Joe Lovecchio and Arde each bagged three hits for the Sweepers.

Feather Haven Feeds upset Five Star Motors 19-13 to leave both clubs at 3-3. Mike Leslie hit two home runs, Brett Scott one for the Feeds. Brian Sullivan went 4-for-5. Rich Wist lined a three-run triple for Five Star Motors.

Goldsmith Seeds completed a 6-0 march through the second half of the Women’s C League with a 16-1 nod over Fidelity Funding Solutions Wednesday at Christmas Hill.

Yvonne Rodriguez hit two triples and a double, Malina Contreras two doubles and a single for the Seeds. Denise Chavez singled home Bridget Adams for the Fidelity run.

Goldsmith will face Image & Design Salon & Day Spa-Guy’s Heating in the Championship Series.

Michelle MacVicar went 3-for-4 and scored three runs to lead 5-1 M&m’s past Kay’s Kids 8-2. Lorraine Marquez and Kiely Sheppard scored Kay’s Kids runs.

Anissa Gonzalez stroked four hits as High Voltage topped Stewart Title 16-10. Cynthina Garza and Suzanne Fox each doubled and singled for Stewart Title.

Fourth of July Softball Tourney Set to be a Bang

The 35th Gilroy Fourth of July C-Rec Softball Tournament will open play Tuesday July 3 with a full field of 16 teams.

The double elimination event has two eight-team divisions, with the finals scheduled at 3:20pm on the Fourth of July.

The B Division opens on Tuesday with Dutchman’s Pizza opposite Dee’z Nutz & Cherries at 7:40pm at Christmas Hill Park. Sandlot and Lopez Investments play at 8:50.

Las Animas hosts Alvarez & Alvarez Realty against Pacific Coast Bail Bonds at 7:40pm. Team Coconuts and What’s Crackin’ play at 8:50.

The C Division opens Tuesday with four games all at 6:30pm. Garlic City’s Finest and Luna Bail Bonds play at Christmas Hill’s major field. The Unknowns and Racks and Sacks play at Las Animas Park. Do Work and Tipsy McStaggers collide at the Christmas Hill minor field. Team Whaaat and Just Having Fun play at the Christmas Hill Ranch site.
