Relay for Life coming to Gilroy
The Gilroy Relay for Life will begin at 6 p.m. today and continue through 6 p.m. Saturday at Christmas Hill Park. Come out and help raise funds for cancer research. During the Miss Relay competition at 2 p.m. Saturday, men will dress as ladies. There will be laser tag, a boxcar race and Relay Idol show and karaoke. Present a flyer that can be printed on the Relay website today at Chilli’s and 15 percent of the purchase will go to Relay for Life. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Image and Design will cut hair at the park for the Locks of Love program. People can come out and get seven to nine inches of hair cut and styled for free if they agree to let Locks of Love keep there hair to make wigs for children with cancer. Father’s Day charity breakfast
The Gilroy Elks Lodge will hold a Father’s Day charity breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Highway. The menu includes omelets, bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns, fruit, coffee and juice. Cost: $15 for adults and $8 for children. Open to members, families and guests. Details: 674-2228.
Benefit concerts at Methodist church
Local music teacher Andoni Bundros has put together a local music series of concerts at 7:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Gilroy at 7600 Church St. Saturday’s concert features Adriel and Reese Douglas. Concerts are free. Donations cover musician travel expenses.
Father’s Day car show
Hollister Christian Fellowship will host a Father’s Day car show Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 2350 Technology Parkway, in Hollister. Antique, vintage, hotrod, trucks and motorcycles are welcome to be entered. There are no entry fees and no trophies will be given out. Details: (831) 801-9679 or hcfonline.com.
Fiesta to honor St. John the Baptist
Old Mission San Juan Bautista will hold its annual fiesta honoring St. John the Baptist, its patron saint, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in the olive grove adjacent to the mission. The fiesta celebrates the 214th anniversary of the founding of the mission on June 24, 1797, and continues an early California tradition. There will be game booths for children and various ethnic food and beverage booths. Details: 500-8353.
