GHS boys, girls water polo drop league tilts; CHS field hockey
falls short against Westmont
The Christopher High girls varsity volleyball team defeated Lincoln in three sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-12 on Tuesday night in San Jose to collect its fourth consecutive victory and second in straight-sets fashion.

Senior Aly Olvera posted a team-high seven kills while senior Claudia Ferreria and freshman Olivia Tabron had four kills apiece. Alex Gerberick had eight assists.

The Cougars are back on the floor tonight at 6:30 p.m. against Gonzales in non-league action at CHS.

— A transportation problem had the Christopher High field hockey team arriving 10 minutes before the start of their contest at Westmont on Tuesday.

The mix up caused a bit of a discombobulated start to the game as Westmont shot out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 4-1 victory.

However, the Cougars began to play much better in the second half, head coach Lia Peterson said

“All in all, not one of their best games, but a great effort by the entire team to push through to the end,” Peterson said.

Maddie Peterson put the Cougars on the board with her second-half goal.

The Cougars can get back on the right track right away as they host Carmel to open the Mission Trail Athletic League potion of their schedule today at 3:30 p.m.

— The Gilroy High boys and girls water polo teams traveled to Hollister to take on rival San Benito on Tuesday, but neither returned with a victory.

Despite three goals and four steals from senior Michelle Shields, the girls lost 17-5. Seniors Francesca Comin and Corin Keller recorded the other GHS goals.

The boys received four goals and seven steals courtesy of senior Michael Shields and eight saves from goalie Cody Froom in a 15-5 loss to the Balers.

Junior Garrett Pipkin registered the Mustangs’ fifth tally.
