The Gilroy High softball team scuffled in a 9-2 loss to Salinas on Tuesday in Gilroy, falling three games back of first-place San Benito in the Tri-County Athletic League.
The Mustangs (6-4 overall, 2-3 TCAL) dipped into a virtual tie for fourth place with Notre Dame, which also has a 2-3 league record but beat GHS earlier this season.
GHS scored its runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Mustangs play at Valley Christian on Thursday in nonleague action.
• A 3-0 win over Palma on Tuesday in Gilroy allowed the Gilroy High boys volleyball team to keep its grasp on second place in the Tri-County Athletic League Valley Division with three matches left in the regular season. GHS (17-12, 10-3) host Salinas on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
• The Christopher High boys volleyball team swept Alisal on Tuesday.
• No. 4-singles player Jeff Kong was Christopher High’s boys tennis team’s lone winner in its home finale against San Benito on Tuesday. The first-place Balers swept the remainder of the matches for a 6-1 victory.
Kong beat Simon Coelho 6-1, 6-1 for the team point. Ryan Cockcroft forced a third-set tiebreaker in the No. 3-singles match, but fell 10-4 to Aaron Rrancis in the winner take all set.
• The Christopher High lacrosse team was outlasted by Stevenson, 14-6, on Tuesday. Patrick Mank scored three times, and Yovany Jimenez, Manny Avila and DJ Campos had one goal each. Campos and Mikey Pirnik were credited with an assist. The Cougars are at home against York at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
• Gavilan baseball suffered its most lopsided defeat of the season, 17-2, to visiting Canada College on Tuesday.
