Laura McIntosh, the star of a televised cooking programs, will emcee the finals of the Great Garlic Cookoff July 26 at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
The featured event at America’s premier food festival, the Great Garlic Cookoff will showcase eight amateur chefs as they prepare their recipes. The finalists were selected from an initial field of more than 600 international submissions. The event is covered by worldwide media and has been featured on the Food Network.
McIntosh has gained notoriety as executive producer and host of “Bringing it Home with Laura McIntosh,” a traveling cooking program focusing on the easy ways to prepare food at the peak of its freshness.
The show is televised locally at 3:30 p.m. Sundays on Channel 2.
McIntosh, a California native and product of five generations of farmers, will return to the cookoff stage July 27 to serve as one of five celebrity judges in the Garlic Showdown, an iron-chef cooking competition involving four prominent Northern California chefs and offering a top prize of $5,000 in cash and $1,000 pounds of fresh Christopher Ranch Garlic.
The 2008 Gilroy Garlic Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 25 to 27 at Christmas Hill Park. Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for seniors 60 and older and $6 for children 6 to 12. Children younger than 6 are admitted free.
