An early morning fire forced a young man and woman to flee their burning home Tuesday morning.
The two were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation after the blaze burned a back bedroom of their single-story home at 241 Old Gilroy St. No one else was injured.
The fire was reported at 6:20 a.m., and was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Three engines from Gilroy and one from the California Department of Forestry contained the fire to the back bedroom, where the fire began, according to an initial investigation. The bedroom was destroyed and the rest of the house sustained major smoke damage. The cause of the fire and damage estimates were under investigation, said Gilroy Fire Training Chief Charles Hurley.
