Voluntary evacuations are being suggested in the low lying areas south part of City (general area of Luchessa south to sports complex) that were noticed earlier in Gilroy. Similar evacuations are suggested in the area of Cougar Ct. in the Northwest Quad. Wheeler Auditorium is being set up as an evacuation center.
Road Closures
1.      Hyde Park at Luchessa (access to Hyde Park from Church St.)
2.      Silva’s Crossing
3.      Hecker Pass (152) at Sprig Lake
4.      Hecker Pass (152) at Carlton (Watsonville Side)
5.      Southbound Highway 101 is closed at San Juan Road and significantly backed up due to a mudslide and a tree in the roadway. Crews are on scene.

By Sunday afternoon an inch of rain has fallen over the past 24 hours in Gilroy, swelling creeks and felling a tree.
2017 has started with a rainy bang, with 2.87 inches falling in town, according to the National Weather Service. Â Gilroy’s average rainfall is 20 inches a year.Â
The city’s wettest January was 20 inches in 1914. Its highest one day total was 5.93 inches in February 2000.
Last year it rained 6.87 inches in January and 16 inches for the year.
