The Santa Clara County Water District is hosting an April 10 public workshop on the Upper Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project at 6:30 p.m. in the El Toro Room of the Community and Cultural Center at 17000 Monterey St. in Morgan Hill.
At the community meeting, residents will get an update on the project design process and a proposed project element at Lake Silveira, which is located within a 50-acre parcel in Morgan Hill. The water district is working with the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department and City officials on the Lake Silveira portion.
The Upper Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project encompasses approximately 13 miles at East Llagas Creek, West Little Llagas Creek and Llagas Creek from Buena Vista Avenue to Llagas Road. The project will provide an increased level of flood protection for up to 100 years for urban areas of Morgan Hill and between five to 10 years for the agricultural areas of San Martin and Gilroy.
The project is part of the Clean, Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Plan, which was approved by voters in 2000.
