MORGAN HILL – Morgan Hill Police were called at noon Wednesday, with a report of a dog bite and ended up having to kill the dog. The dog, a Chow, had bitten its owner and a guest on San Luis Way.

Since the dog had been involved in a previous dog bite on Dec. 24, MHPD animal control elected to take the dog into custody. Two officers attempted to take custody of the dog in the backyard but it evaded both and charged directly at a third officer, who was acting as a safety officer. This third officer was forced to shoot the animal in the chest to keep from being bitten. The animal was dead at the scene.

The incident will be reviewed by the Morgan Hill Police Department’s Critical Incident Review Board, per departmental policy.
