with a 5-2 decision over the Chippendales Sunday at Las Animas

GILROY – Victory Outreach earned a berth in the Men’s DDD post-season with a 5-2 decision over the Chippendales Sunday at Las Animas Park.

Ralph Ortez of Victory Outreach lined a run-scoring double in the third inning to break a 2-2 tie. Leroy Martinez gave Victory Outreach an insurance run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

Victory Outreach finished the half with a 6-0 record, one game better than No Soup 4 You. Victory Outreach will face first-half champion Dan Keith Septics in the best 2-of-3 Championship Series. The first game will be at Las Animas on Sunday Aug. 10 at 4 p.m., with the second game Tuesday Aug. 12 at 8:50 p.m. at Christmas Hill Park.

Jesse Jimenez and Louie Martinez each stroked two singles for the winners. Sebastian Cabrera went 2-for-3 and scored twice for the Chippendales.

Rudy Maquinalez went 4-for-4 to carry No Soup 4 You by Bay Sheets 17-2. Kurt Gitmed launched a home run and double, scoring four runs for the Soup. Rich Luna and Jay Jones added three hits each to the Soup attack.

Covenant completed the half with a 3-3 mark by defeating the Plunderers 18-4. Rich Adams provided a single and triple, scoring three runs for the Builders. Robert Hernandez went 2-for-3 for the Plunderers.

Feather Haven Mill snapped a five-game losing streak with a 14-13 victory over Gaeta’s Taqueria in nine innings Sunday at Las Animas in Co-Rec B League action.

The loss left Gaeta’s and Dee’s Nuts & Cherries tied for second place for the half with 3-3 marks. The Krazy Koyotes earned the season title by winning both halves of play. Gaeta’s will face Dee’s at 6:10 p.m. Sunday Aug. 10 at Las Animas, with the winner to face Feather Haven Mill, the runner-up in the first half, at 7:20 p.m. for the second-place award.

Chris Adame tripled and scored on a Jessica Loza sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth for Gaeta’s. Chris Ferguson scored on a two-out single by Jesse Nunez of Feather Haven in the eighth to tie the score at 11-11.

Monica Piedmont and Esmeralda Hernandez hit run-scoring singles in the top of the ninth for Gaeta’s. Dave DeCarlo, Vickie Beacham and Ferguson each cracked a base hit and scored on an error in the ninth to give Feather Haven the nod.

Nunez posted four hits for the winners, Piedmont four for Gaeta’s.
