GILROY – Monterey outlasts CHS in league action Thursday.
GILROY – Head coach Larry Nabzeska didn’t make excuses for his Christopher High girls varsity volleyball team’s loss to Monterey on Thursday night.
“There isn’t much you can say,” Nabzeska said. “We were just beaten by a better team.”
Two days after the Cougars endured a five-set loss to Monte Vista Christian, the Toreadors marched into town and dealt a 25-12, 25-10, 17-25, 25-18 defeat to the home team in Monterey Bay League play.
“We just couldn’t receive serve,” Nabzeska said.
After the Cougars slow start, they responded with an impressive third-set win and had the Toreadors tied 18-18 in the fourth set before watching the visitors rattle off seven straight points to end the comeback attempt.
“I think we played OK after those first two games,” Nabzeska reinforced.
Claudia Ferreira posted a team high eight kills and fellow captain Paulina Vo-Griffin was 23-for-23 with her serves. As a team, the Cougars only had three service errors in the match.
MBL action continues next week with two games for the Cougars. CHS travels to play North Monterey County on Monday night then returns to the comforts of its home gym Wednesday night to take on Pajaro Valley. Both matchups are set for 6:30 p.m.
