You have to give the Anchorpoint Christian girls basketball team credit, they didn’t give up even when they were gassed.
With just five players suited up Tuesday night, the Warriors played four quarters of non-stop, up and down basketball, falling just short in their second half comeback bid against Santa Cruz Waldorf, 46-32.
“They find ways to work it out,” Anchorpoint coach K.C. Adams said of his bunch. “We got great effort from our players overall.”
Chelsey Urbanski led the Warriors with 15 points.
“That’s last year’s MVP,” Adams said. “She’s our team leader, and the hardest worker. She’s playing with a twisted knee so you can’t knock her for trying.”
The four other Lady Warriors that played a full 32 minutes included Adriana Osuna (nine points), Kristian Osuna (four), Anastasia Loyd (four) and Monique Muniz.
The team is now 4-12, 1-4 in the Coastal Athletic league.
The boys team fared a bit better against Waldorf, winning its contest 57-49. The team followed that win up two days later with a 65-40 victory over Calvary Christian Thursday.
After losing guard Adrian Rodriguez and forward Colton Minyard to injury, Adams said the team has stepped it up as a unit.
“Now they’re attacking the ball on defense,” Adams said. “We’re getting a lot of points on steals now where we used to get them on fast breaks and rebounds.”
Josh Ignagni and Ryan Lasondak each 15 points in a victory over Calvary, with 10 steals and 15 rebounds, respectively.
The Anchorpoint boys are now 10-5 overall, 5-0 league.
