San Jose – In front of more than 500 elected officials and community members, South County’s representative on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, Mike Wasserman, was sworn in to office Monday evening.
Former Supervisor Don Gage – now on the Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors – administered Wasserman’s Oath of Office at the County Government Center in San Jose.
“The biggest hurdle facing us now is an estimated $200 to $250 million budget deficit,” Wasserman said. “After 10 years of budget cuts, each year the cuts get tougher, the cuts go deeper and are more painful.”
He added that the health and safety of county residents depend on the financial stability of the county government. One of his goals, Wasserman said, is to put an end to the deficit cycle.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues, the administration, the employees, and the private sector to develop and implement long-term solutions, so that we can avoid round after round of even harsher cuts. We owe it to the public we serve, and to our employees,” he said Monday evening.
