GHS field hockey
After three Mount Hamilton Division tilts, the Gilroy High field hockey team has yet to secure its first win of the still young season.
“I’m not sure exactly what’s wrong, but what I do know is that we have to figure it out,” head coach Adam Gemar said. “We are still working on learning the flow of the game and some of the basic skills.”
The Mustangs (0-1-2) tied Saratoga 1-1 on Wednesday and face perennial league power Los Gatos, which lost 3-1 to St. Francis on Wednesday, on the road Friday.
Ashlee Williams broke a scoreless tie in the second half, but the Falcons countered with their goal, converting a penalty stroke to again tie the game.
Gemar said a five-minute period in which the Mustangs were down a player after receiving a yellow card turned the tide a bit in that second half.
“They had pretty good pressure on us during that and after,” he said. “The momentum shifted.”
The game went into a sudden death, seven-minute, seven-versus-seven session in which neither team delivered the decider.
“We matched up pretty well, I thought,” Gemar added.
Game time Friday is slated for 3:30 in Los Gatos.
CHS water polo
Both CHS water polo teams were upended on the road Wednesday.
The boys were on the wrong end of a 12-5 decision against the Tri-County Athletic League Valley Division’s first-place team Palma.
On the girls’ side, the Cougars encountered a similar fate against Santa Catalina in a 18-4 loss.
