Christopher’s Maraya Carmona and Gilroy’s Megan Nebesnik won individual titles in the Central Coast Section Girls Wrestling Championships on Saturday night at Oak Grove High in San Jose.
Carmona won the 122-pound final by pinning Los Altos’ Hannah Teter in 3 minutes, 4 seconds. Cougars coach Alecxis Lara said it was the first female individual CCS title in the brief history of Christopher athletics.
“When she got that pin, it was an unexplainable feeling of joy. I’m just so proud of her,” Lara said.
Carmona, a junior, had a bye in the first round before winning her three contested matches by pin in 26 seconds, 5:19 and 3:04.
Nebesnik won the 165-pound title, needing only 33 seconds to pin South San Francisco’s Jessica Yip in the final.
Nebesnik, a senior, received a first-round bye before winning each of her contested matches by fall in the first period – in 1:25, 13 seconds and 33 seconds.
Also for Gilroy, Courtney Pipken placed third at 98 pounds.
The top three in each weight class advanced to the state meet, which will be held Feb. 22 and 23 at Lemoore High.
