San Juan Bautista – El Teatro Campesino presents “Zoot Suit,” the critically acclaimed play written by Luis Valdez. Drawn from actual transcripts, documents and newspaper articles of the 1940s, “Zoot Suit” recreates historical events of the Sleepy Lagoon murder case that railroaded young Chicano pachucos, or zoot suiters, who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Valdez synthesizes fact and fiction using the case to examine Chicano Zoot Suit culture, prejudice, and the role of the media in the judicial system.
