MORGAN HILL – A citation charging arson was issued Thursday to a 13-year-old Morgan Hill boy involved in a fire on Foothill Court on April 3 that injured himself and three others, according to Capt. Dennis Johnsen, arson and explosive investigator for the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

Four boys were playing with a lighter which ignited a can of white gas that exploded, spraying them with fire.

One boy remains in the burn unit at Valley Medical Center in San Jose, Johnsen said, with deep, second degree burns on his left hand and second degree burns on his face.

“His eyes, mouth and lungs are okay but he will probably be in the hospital for about a month,” Johnsen said.

The other three boys were released after treatment at area hospitals.

The boy cited was not the most seriously injured.
