Morgan Hill Freedom 5000 Race

Don't forget that this coming Wednesday, July 4 is the Morgan Hill Freedom 5000 5k Run/Walk. The race starts around 8 a.m. and you can register at the race finish line. Print out the registration form, show up and Just Run.

FOOTBALL: Two former Gavilan players sign letters of intent

A pair of Gavilan College football players recently signed their letters of intent, Rams’ head coach Spencer Gilford announced.

Philip Andrew Caltabiano September 17, 1950 – June 13, 2012

Philip passed away with his loving family by his side. A memorial service is set for July 7, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Hollister.

Mary Josephine Pierce September 16, 1931 – June 27, 2012

Mary Jo Pierce passed away suddenly of natural causes on June 27, 2012. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband Les Pierce, her two daughters Deborah Pierce and Peggy Pierce-Rudd and her son Les Pierce Jr. She is also survived by her brother Nicholas Ferrero, her sister-in-law Betty Ferrero and many nieces and nephews.

Jeremy Wayne Millsap August 6, 1976 – June 26, 2012

Jeremy passed away at his Tres Pinos residence June 26th at the age of 35 years. He is survived by his spouse Jennifer Millsap; his parents Patricia and Jeffrey Mauerman of Tres Pinos; and his children Jillian and Joseph Millsap.

Keeping hope alive for Joshie

Friends and relatives of Joshua or “Joshie” Valdez gathered in Gilroy's Christmas Hill Park Tuesday to share memories of the 22-year-old who remains in a coma after he was hit by a car while walking in Morgan Hill June 16.

Ethan Bennett Running Across the USA

There was an article in the  Dispatch sports section on June 5 by Josh Weaver about Ethan Bennett of Morgan Hill, who is running across the US (about 30 miles a day), to raise awareness and money for cancer research with all proceeds going to Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong organization.

Burrito Barney

It’s not what we feed the baby barn owl, it’s how.  Volunteers at the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center wrap the squirming, screaming little raptor in a towel “burrito-style”. This method keeps them safe from its sharp talons and allows one person to maintain control while feeding it pieces of rodents with forceps. It can sometimes be a messy process, and after feeding time is over, baby needs its face and beak washed up.

VTA to replace paper tickets with “Clipper” cards

In an effort to save time for passengers and go paperless, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will replace all paper transit passes with the regional electronic Clipper card, according to a VTA press release.
