City Council inks five-year Calfire contract

Even with the catch that the state might ask for more money beyond what is contracted, the Morgan Hill City Council approved July 25 a five-year agreement with Calfire to provide the city’s fire and emergency medical services.

Coe Park advocates: Pay up, or pay back

Local outdoor enthusiasts who fundraised a quarter of a million dollars to keep California’s second largest state park open to the public are demanding a refund if the state doesn’t allocate $20 million in recently discovered hidden funds “back to their original intended use.”

Police finish investigation into owner of aggressive pit bull

The Gilroy Police Department has concluded their investigation into the owner who fled the scene when his pit bull attacked a dachshund at Starbucks on First Street on July 14, causing the dachshund to be euthanized and causing non-life threatening injuries to its owner. 

BRIEFS: Running, cheering and soccer

Sign up for the Run for the Stinkin' Roses Cougar Classic 5K and 10K run that will take place Sept. 30 at Solorsano Middle School.  All proceeds benefit the Christopher High School cross country team. Pre-register by Sept. 15 and the cost is $25 or $20 for runners under 18 or over 60. Register after Sept. 15 the cost is $30. Hit-and-run on Hecker Pass Highway

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate a hit-and-run car crash that occurred in the area Hecker Pass Highway and Watsonville Road about 2:20 on Thursday. As of Friday morning, the suspect has not been caught.

Updated: Council approves water district ballot measure

City Council voted 4-2 to support the Santa Clara Valley Water District's ballot measure for Gilroy's November election during their regular meeting Monday night.
