Churches are historical trove for communities

A recent newsletter of the Gilroy United Methodist Church contained an interesting article by Dispatch columnist Kat Teraji. She explained how the daughter of a former pastor (back in 1938) recently donated to the church “a wealth of artifacts and articles” from that time period.

‘Celebrity bartending’ event to raise money for nonprofits

Celebrate summer fun and philanthropy at the July 30 “celebrity bartending” event supporting nonprofit organizations that serve South County Residents. The event will feature local public officials serving premium wines and artisan beer, with “generous tipping” encouraged and the proceeds benefiting Community Solutions and the St. Joseph’s Family Center. Serving beverages will be Morgan Hill Mayor Steve Tate, Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors President Mike Wasserman, Gilroy Police Chief Denise Turner and Santa Clara Police Chief Mike Sellers, according to a press release from Community Solutions. The event takes place 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 30 at the Silicon Valley Capital Club, 50 W. San Fernando, San Jose. Free cat, kitten adoption at San Martin Animal Shelter
