Dear Editor:
I am a former Gilroy resident. I moved to Gilroy in 1974 and

Dear Editor:
I am a former Gilroy resident. I moved to Gilroy in 1974 and lived there up until 2000 when I moved to Portland, Oregon. When I moved to town in 1974, the U.S. 101 freeway has just been completed bypassing downtown. Talk was back then that we needed to develop a plan for the downtown area or it would die.
In reading today’s article, it amazes me that in 26 years, the local politicians have yet to come up with a vision for the downtown core.
Why is this such a difficult task? Seems like in 26 years we could have put together a plan to save the city’s core. I have to say that all the extensive streetscape improvements that have been done around the train station are an improvement. It seems such a waste of money, however, given that most of the improvements were done in front of the many bars and taverns along that section of Monterey Street.
Oh well, life is not perfect. Even here in Oregon.
