Gilroy – The Perry family is asking for donations to help them pay for living expenses while they help their son – a 2004 Gilroy High School grad – recover from injuries sustained in Iraq last week.
U.S. Army Pfc. Danny Perry, 20, was on foot patrol with his platoon in Ramadi, Iraq, when he was hit by rocket-propelled grenades. He’s recovering from a severe head injury, facial burns and numerous other injuries caused by the explosion.
Tim and Linda Perry, who live in Somers, Conn., are staying in Washington, D.C. while their son convalesces at Walter Reed Medical Center. Tim Perry quit his new job to take care of Danny.
The donations will be used for the couple’s basic living expenses. Their hotel room is being covered by the Army.

Smart & Final opens new store
Gilroy – Smart & Final, the smaller, faster warehouse store for restaurant-quality food and supplies, has opened its newest store in Gilroy. At 19,938 square feet, the new store includes all the features of Smart & Final’s newest design.

Advisory committee meets
Gilroy – On Thursday, March 9, the CAC will hold its advisory meeting at 7pm at Gilroy Unified School district office, 7819 Arroyo Circle. CAC is a group of parents, teachers and administrators who works with children of special needs. The topic is Positive Behavior Support Plans.
