Gilroy – The JV football team completed a banner season by shutting out San Benito 40-0 last week at Garcia-Elder Complex.

Tony Travis caught touchdown passes of 60 and 70 yards. Sean Hale also scored two touchdowns. Jordan Eden and Angel Zuniga each had a touchdown.

“Tyler Hill improved from the beginning,” said head coach Jack Daley. “Lucas Fortino did a good job as a linebacker as well.”

The JV football team finished the season with a mark of 8-2.

“One of those games we lost was the forfeit to North Salinas,” said Daley. “We could have gone undefeated. I think we had that much talent.”

The cross country team competed well during the season. The boys JV team had a 2-4 record. The frosh soph boys were 4-2. The frosh soph girls had a 3-3 record.

“Hanna Fiorio started running at 26:07 and ended at 23:57,” said coach Art Silva. “Mariah Salazar started running in the mid-28s and ended in the 24’s.”

Patrick Collins improved as he beat his personal record The girls JV field hockey team finished its season with a 2-0 win over Monterey.

Mandi Jo Torres and Marissa McBride were goal scorers in the final game.

“Overall it was a good year,” said coach Armando Padilla. “Next year we hope to improve on team speed and skill.”

Padilla praised the improvement of the girls throughout the season.

“One of my most improved players was Alex Cabreras. She is a girl who came in, worked hard and listened to the coaches as well as the players,” said Padilla. “All 23 girls improved in their own way.”
