Pies Please … Don’t Forget – Bake or Buy – Bring a Pie to the Lord’s Table Today
Dear Editor,
I wanted to remind readers that we will again be collecting pies for the Thanksgiving dinner held at The Lord’s Table. Each year, approximately 200 people, many of them needy families, are served a traditional Thanksgiving Day feast. The pies are always donated by members of the community, and can be homemade or store bought. Most years, we have enough pies at the end of the night to send one home with each family – a nice take-home expression of care for the holidays.
Please deliver your pies on Wednesday between 3 and 5 p.m. to The Lord’s Table, 11 First Street (in the St. Mary School Gym) in Gilroy. If readers have questions, they may call me at (408) 209-0530.

Trustee Pledges to Pursue Excellence in Education
Dear Editor,
I wish to thank the community of Gilroy for supporting my bid for re-election to the Gilroy Board of Education. I consider the education of our children in growing into literate, strong, autonomous and responsible citizens as one of our community’s most important (even sacred) missions; I pledge to be relentless in driving continuous improvement in the quality and breadth of education offered by our schools and look forward to working with the new board to accomplish these goals.
Building and sustaining an outstanding school district requires all of us, and I call upon the parents, community, and city government to become active partners with us in educating our children. From birth through high school graduation, a child only spends 12 percent of their time in a classroom – 12 percent.
It is imperative that parents read to their children, provide nourishing food, ensure that children get adequate rest and exercise and hold them to the highest academic and behavioral standards. We need the community to volunteer, tutor, provide jobs/internships and hold our children to the highest academic and behavioral standards. We need the city government to put the needs of families and children first in city planning; with a strong bias in creating a family-friendly environment: open space, recreation, schools; opportunities for fewer cars and more community. We all need to demand and support high-performing schools and express appreciation and respect to the hard-working teachers and staff of our district.
Thank you; please don’t hesitate to phone (848-2602) or email (bu*****@****ic.com) with suggestions or concerns.

Amazing Work Being Done to Take Care of the Animals
Dear Editor,
The folks at Town Cats of Morgan Hill and the St. Francis of Assisi Spay/Neuter clinic in San Martin are doing AMAZING things for the animals of South County with very little resources.
It’s important to acknowledge that good things can be done for the animals that are not predicated on the county budget, the county deficit, geographic location of animals, capital projects lists – or any of the other ubiquitous excuse rhetoric ad nauseum – that we are given by our elected officials for not having proper animal care services in the South County.
