Dear Editor,
I think I’ve finally found what’s wrong with California. Too
many warm, armchair liberals with enough time on their hands to
write criticism without checking out the facts or even
understanding the problem. Before you even think to criticize our
efforts at comforting the poor with some form of entertainment,
which may actually connect them with the real world we live in, try
visiting the shelter. Ask shelter volunteers how valuable this TV
is to the order and overall mood and control.
Dear Editor,

I think I’ve finally found what’s wrong with California. Too many warm, armchair liberals with enough time on their hands to write criticism without checking out the facts or even understanding the problem. Before you even think to criticize our efforts at comforting the poor with some form of entertainment, which may actually connect them with the real world we live in, try visiting the shelter. Ask shelter volunteers how valuable this TV is to the order and overall mood and control.

It’s been my philosophy to donate quietly without fanfare – I don’t need a “somebody of the year” award. But how’s this:

1. $1,000 in December for shelter supplies.

2. 300 socks, numerous bags of clothes, 100 turkeys for St. Josephs, 1,000 cash in Nov. 2004 for supplies, two TVs, VCRs, clothes, 300 turkeys for St Josephs in 2004, towels, tooth brushes, toothpaste, socks, warm clothes, 3,000 square feet of storage container for supplies, rent free storage of container and storage rack sets.

This list goes back to when we moved into Gilroy in 1988. It includes 10’s of thousands of dollars worth of donations to schools, clubs and grad night, etc. That letter was a thank you to some special people helping on a very special project. Where were you, Kathy and Betty?

Oh! … you were reading “A Modest Proposal.” Actually, I should thank you – you got me praying a little longer. This morning, I woke up and thanked God I wasn’t married to either of you. By the way, what is “Ishtar”? Surely you impress us.
