Caltrain looking for love poems
Gilroy – Caltrain is offering a chance for passengers and the public to express their love for Caltrain – in poetry. Inspired by the success of last year’s Romance on the Rails singles event, Caltrain is launching a contest to honor the best love poetry about Caltrain.
Caltrain is accepting entries for the contest through Valentine’s Day.
The association between romance and trains is a common one, and Caltrain often hears from riders who profess their love for taking the train. A lucky few even meet a special someone during the time they spend on the train, and last year’s Romance on the Rails event highlighted the possibility that a simple Caltrain ride can prove to be a ticket to happiness.
Poems may be written in any form or style, but limited to 100 words or less. Caltrain will announce the winning poems March 1.
First prize is a two-night stay at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Union Square, second prize is two Gourmet Express five-course dinners aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train and third prize is a Hornblower dinner cruise for two.
Entries must be received by Caltrain by 5pm Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Caltrain Communications, Rail Poetry Contest, 1250 San Carlos Ave., P.O. Box 3006 San Carlos, CA 94070-1306 or by fax to (650)508-7919. Entries can be e-mailed to lo*******@******in.com.
Space for meeting sought
Gilroy – Advent Group Ministries, a Christian nonprofit dedicated to assisting teens with recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, is seeking donated space in which to provide much needed free treatment services in the South County area. A conference room for 14 to 15 young people and their counselors would be ideal. The room would be needed 3 to 7pm, Monday through Friday, and two or three evenings a week. Due to State licensing restrictions, the space will need to be certified by the Fire Department.
Details: Sherri Stuart 842-9816 or Mark Miller 281-0708, ext. 202.
NarAnon needs a place to meet
Gilroy – NarAnon, the 12 step fellowship for family and friends of drugs addicts is seeking a meeting place. They would like Tuesday evening, as the area of San Jose/Los Gatos has a meeting every night except Tuesday, so South County hosting a Tuesday meeting would be of great value and benefit. The woman who is coordinating this effort has several people on a waiting list for a South County meeting.
As members will pay for the meeting room, the lower the cost, the easier on wallets. The meetings are one hour. The facility could be in Gilroy, San Martin or Morgan Hill.
