Gilroy – Little League Try-Outs for baseball and softball will be held Saturday and Jan. 21 at Las Animas Park on the following schedules:

Sweetheart Surprise for the Troops

Gilroy – Please join the Gilroy Seniors for a January “Sweetheart Surprise” Operation Interdependence Pack-In sending Valentines’ Day Cards to the Troops on Saturday at the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room, 7351 Rosanna St. from noon to 2pm or 3 to 5pm. People can stop by for 15 minutes and write a letter or stay for two hours and pack. Please bring 25 completed love letters (Valentines) for the Troops and some Valentine Surprises that can fit in quart sized baggies.

Address change for the Sheriff’s sub-station

San Martin – The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office South County Sub-Station has moved to a new location. The new address is: 80 Highland Ave., San Martin. The main phone number remains the same: (408) 686-3650.

The Sheriff’s Office South County Sub-Station provides police protection and service for the unincorporated south county communities of San Martin, Rucker and Uvas Canyon, as well as the unincorporated areas surrounding Morgan Hill and Gilroy.

Safe driving classes offered

Morgan Hill – The nation’s first and largest classroom refresher course for motorists 50 and older. Participants will familiarize themselves with driver safety and new laws. Three-year DMV certificates will be awarded for discounts on your own auto insurance, upon completion of this one-day program. No tests. There is a minimal DMV certificate fee.

Visiting artists series

Gilroy – The Visiting Artists Series is sponsored by the Gavilan College Cosmetology Department Advisory Committee and the Cosmetology Associations of Santa Clara Valley and the Central Bay. The following classes will be held at Gavilan, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

– Jan. 23, at 6:30pm, join Alicia Orabella, Redken Color Class, Keeping it Real. Orabella will share fashion trends utilizing her contemporary philosophy of “Keeping it Real” coloring techniques.

– Feb. 27, at 6:30pm, join Rose Hill, Makeup Artist for the Famous.

– March 8, at 6:30pm, join Gary Gerard, Master Classics II, The Beautiful Hair Remix Collection. Gerard, a world famous stylist, will share his simplified method.

Cost: Professionals: at the door $45 or all three classes for $90. Students: at the door $30 or all three for $45.

Join a book club

Gilroy – Ask about the Gilroy Library Book Club. The club meets monthly at the Gilroy Library to discuss a book that members have all read. The Gilroy Library Book Club will meet again on Jan. 24 to discuss two books: “When the Emperor Was Divine” by Julie Otsuka and “Souvenir” by Louise Steinman.
