Orientation for Gilroy
High students
Gilroy – Students heading to Gilroy High School in the fall are invited to attend an orientation and pick up their class schedule today through Thursday. Freshman beginning GHS this month are scheduled for today and Wednesday morning, while upper classmen are scheduled for today, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
The event will be staged at the GHS Student Center.

Luigi uniforms on sale
Gilroy – For returning Luigi Aprea Elementary School students, the sale of uniforms end today. The hours are from 11am to 2pm. The sale will be at the Sports Shack, 8881 Muraoka Drive, Unit 1. Payment accepted is cash or check only.

SV Symphony
announces walk
Gilroy – The South Valley Symphony has announced the 31st annual running of the Mount Madonna Challenge 6K walk and race and 12K race to be held at the Mount Madonna County Park on Sunday, Aug. 27.
Runners will gather at the Sprig Lake picnic area at the base of the park on Highway 152. The 6K walk and run event will commence at 8:30am sharp followed by the 12K run at 9am.
Pre-registration fee is $13 without T-shirt and $18 with T-shirt and should be mailed no later than Aug. 16 care of the South Valley Symphony, Mt. Madonna Challenge, P.O. Box 1347, Gilroy, Calif., 95021-1347. Online registration: www.active.com or www.the schedule.com.
Day-of-race registration fees will be $18 without T-shirt and $25 with T-shirt. Day-of-race registration begins at 7:15 am.

Downtown flea market
Gilroy – Antique dealers, produce stores and a variety of other downtown business owners will hold outdoor flea markets despite major construction along Monterey Street. The events, held on the first and third Saturdays of the month through October, will rotate between two parking lots off Eigleberry Street, between Fourth and Sixth streets, from 8:30am to 3pm.
