Gilroy – More than four days after human remains were found in the hills off of Highway 152 just west of Gilroy, investigators said they are unable to release any information about the incident because they are investigating it as a homicide.
Sheriff’s Deputy Serg Palanov said he would not release basic details about the time, exact location, and who reported the remains to authorities.
“In most homicide investigations, detectives don’t like to release any information that might alert a suspect,” Palanov said Tuesday afternoon.
Even the victim’s gender was unclear given the state of the remains, Palanov said.
“I don’t know anything more,” Palanov said Monday.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s office also declined to release any information, saying the matter was under investigation by the Sheriff’s department.
What police did say was loggers working in the hills off of Hecker Pass Highway flagged down a Santa Clara County Sheriff deputy Friday and reported a possible dead body between the Sprig Lake turnout and Mount Madonna County Park.
Palanov said investigators are awaiting autopsy results.
Anyone with information, or who may have seen vehicles parked in the area anytime within the past week, may call the Sheriff’s office at 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at 808-4431.
