Dear Editor,

I’m writing in response to the July 18 article about the poor condition of our county roads in the South County. This past year, I have seen trees down on the edge of the road. The county road crews just put a barricade in front of the fallen trees and leave it that way, instead of removing the trees. This has been the case on Uvas and Redwood Retreat roads.

On Redwood Retreat Road the tree has been there for over a year. In fact, the barricade has rotted away and been replaced with a new one. Why in the world doesn’t the road crew remove the trees in a timely period instead of just putting a new barricade and thinking this solves the problem? Laziness is why. It’s easier to replace a barricade than to remove a fallen tree. People living in this scenic countryside do not want these eyesore barricades to look at. It’s ridiculous. It seems like plain laziness by the supervisor and crew.

Another problem was this past winter on Croy Road, a mudslide blocked a quarter of one lane. The road crew merely put a barricade in front of the slide, instead of removing the slide. This left the hazardous condition on the road, forcing traffic to go into the oncoming traffic lane to get around the slide and barricade. To make matters worse, this was on a blind curve. This condition stayed this way for about six weeks. It’s a wonder an accident didn’t occur here since this is the road to Croy Canyon County Park and used by many vehicles.

Whoever is responsible for this hazardous condition should be fired. Get rid of these half witted supervisors and foreman responsible before motorists are killed.
