Dear Editor,
I want to thank the Morgan Hill Times for presenting the Democratic Party alternatives to Republican Congressman Richard Pombo in the June primary. The candidates are reasonable alternatives to a congressman faced with some serious political problems.
I do need to correct some items reported by Matt King in the April 29 article. First, Jerry McNerney, not Steve Filson, is the candidate supported by the party regulars. At the California Democratic Party Convention in Sacramento he received the party endorsement; 75 percent of the delegates from our district decided that McNerney was our best candidate. I, too, support that claim.
McNerney, Filson and Steve Thomas have visited Morgan Hill and the South County Democratic Club on several occasions this year. Each made good presentations. However, McNerney’s was a cut above the others and on March 25 he received our club endorsement. He has also received the endorsement of numerous other clubs in the district and most of the labor organizations in the four counties of the district.
There is no question that many district voters are tired of Pombo’s politics.  The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has taken an interest (but they are not allowed to endorse). The California Democratic Party has taken such an interest that Pombo is cited on its Web site as a leading example of the Republican “Culture of Corruption” in California.
McNerney has retained his campaign organization and volunteers from his 2004 election run. The organization is there and may have already visited your doorsteps. I believe this is the one candidate that can unseat Pombo in November.
Mark Moore,
President, South County Democratic Club
