Dear Editor,
I wonder if it is newsworthy that every year the Democrat candidates violate Gilroy’s sign ordinance. The problem is, if I report it to the city, it takes them a week or more to process the violation and then the violator has 30 days to correct the violation which takes past Election Day.
With mayors Ana Phares and Anna Caballero running for statewide office, maybe you can ask them why they are scofflaws? They can’t blame shift. Their volunteers are their responsibility. I believe they should immediately comply with the ordinances and remove their signs from city property and all fences, private or public and all right-of-way’s. Gilroy city ordinance 37.24 (m) “Political signs or placards which are erected less than ninety (90) days before and removed less than ten (10) days after the election for which they are posted. Political signs shall not be placed on any portion of a street, sidewalk, or public right-of-way.”
I am also contacting Giacalone Electric and Rosso’s Furniture to ask if the signs on their property were placed without permission. In the case of Giacalone, the fence is off limits because it is on a public right-of-way.
This story should not be relegated to the opinion page.
