Q: What sport was the very first in which an American woman won an Olympic championship?
A: Golf, at the second summer Olympics in Paris in 1900. The winner, Margaret Abbott of Chicago, shot a 46 in the nine-hole competition and was awarded a silver bowl. Golf was one of only three sports women competed in at the games. The other two were croquet and tennis.
