If you think county fairs are just about country music and livestock, think again. The 2006 San Benito County Fair will showcase a variety of activities for adults and children. Here’s a basic rundown; for more information including a full schedule, maps and directions, go to www.sanbenitocountyfair.com.
Highlights
– The San Juan Pacific Model Railroaders will have their layout open for the public during the fair. The building is located near Gate 3 on the south end of the fairgrounds.
– Activities for children include fingerpainting, a visit from Bitzy the Clown, the Busy Bee Dog and Pony Show, and balloon artist Dennis Forel.
– Various acts will take place throughout the fair on the patio stage including hypnotist Tina Marie; Left of Centre, a band formerly known as The Mudpuppies, covering all styles of music; Johnny Gi-tar; and Scotty & Trink, comprised of Scotty Meltzer and Trink Spang-Hanssen, who perform a combination of comedy and juggling while unicycling.
– The Rawhide Express, which will be at the fair, is a custom-built, electric-powered fiberglass touring train. It is environmentally safe and emits no smoke, fuel odors or noise.
– The Saddle Horse Association Museum will be open at various times during the fair.
– A dessert contest will take place from 3pm-4:30pm on the patio stage Sept. 30.
– Livestock judging takes places throughout the fair, with awards handed out Oct. 1.
