Soledad M. Cota passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, at College Oak
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sacramento, at the age of
89.
Soledad M. Cota passed away on Sunday, Dec. 7, at College Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sacramento, at the age of 89.

Cota was born and educated in Mexico. She lived in San Benito county from 1953 to 2002. Cota worked as a canner for Fairview Packing Company for 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of Teamsters and Warehousemen local 890, of Salinas. Her favorite pastimes were sewing and crocheting. Her family said, “She was always in a happy mood as she liked to sing and dance.”

Soledad M. Cota was preceded in death by her husband Ricardo C. Cota, who died in Oct. 1993. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Sylvester Martinez, Jessie Martinez, Frank Martinez and her sisters: Helen Lopez and Connie Chavez. Cota was survived by her sons: Jess M. Cota and his wife Linda, of Gilroy, Richard Cota and his wife Ortie, also of Gilroy, Ralph Cota, of Salinas, and John Cota, of Delano. Also survived by Mrs. Cota are her daughters: Angie Painter and her husband Vern, of Hollister, Mary Reyes, of Sacramento, Hope Ramos, of Washington, Josie Ruiz and her husband Ray, of Sacramento, and Annette Scarlett, of Sacramento, as well as 22 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister, on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Family and friends will proceed from there to Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum for funeral services at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation cover of the mortuary.
