Mustang kickers get No. 12 seed, open vs. No. 5

GILROY – Following a second-place finish in the Tri-County Athletic League, the Gilroy High boys soccer squad received a No. 12 seed in this year’s Division I Central Coast Section Playoffs.
The Mustangs (12-4-4 overall, 7-1-2 in T-CAL) will hit the road Wednesday, Feb. 19 as they square off against No. 5 Menlo-Atherton (13-6-1) on its home turf at 2:30 p.m.
If Gilroy wins its first-round game, the locals will then play the winner of the No. 4 Bellarmine-No. 13 Alisal game in the Feb. 22 quarterfinals at Salinas High at 2 p.m. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25 at P.A.L in San Jose at 4:30 p.m. and the finals are set for Friday, Feb. 28 at P.A.L. in San Jose at 4:30 p.m.
Last season, the Mustangs dropped a tight 1-0 decision to finalist Watsonville in the opening round.
League champion Live Oak (15-1-5 overall, 9-0-1) received a No. 7 seed and will play host Tuesday, Feb. 18 to No. 10 Serra (9-6-4) at 2:30 p.m.
No other T-CAL boys soccer team was granted a playoff spot.
Undefeated Leland (24-0-1) received the top seed and will play host to NO. 16 Westmont (14-3-2) on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
