GILROY – Gilroy’s air quality was measured at 90 parts per billion Monday, exceeding the Federal Eight Hour Ozone Standard of 80 ppb. San Martin was rated at 93 ppb on Monday.
The rise in emissions may be due to a late growing season, which can stress plants on the first hot days of the season and cause them to contribute to poor air quality, said Terry Lee, director of public information for the Bay Area Quality Management District. Temperatures reached the high 90s Monday. Usually such emissions are from cars or industrial causes, Lee said.
Gilroy is not expected to exceed the Federal Eight- Hour Ozone Standard today.
