GILROY – The third annual Spring 16 Softball Tournament is scheduled Sunday June 29 at Christmas Hill Park’s three diamonds.

The tournament uses a 16-inch softball (standard softball is 12-inch) for the one-day double-elimination tournament.

Sponsors have cone onboard within the past month to assist with the tournament. Backers of this event include Mize Fastpitch, HMI, Sport Shack, Digital Optics, Elam Trucking, Century 21 Premier, Cary O’Neal Roofing, California Silk Screening and Fritter-Schulz Physical Therapy.

The sponsorship allows the Gilroy Community Services Department offer the 16-inch tournament for a $40 entry fee. The top four teams will receive trophies, while the members of the top two teams will receive souvenir t-shirts for individual members.

The pitcher, catcher and all infielders must use gloves. Both men and women are allowed on a team line-up, although a man must pitch. The pitching distance is 46 feet, with the bases at 60 feet.

The deadline to put together a team for the tournament is Monday June 23 at 5 p.m. The field of teams willbe limited to the first 16 entries. Further information is available at 846-0460.
