GILROY – All students from fourth to seventh grade can register for Gavilan College’s “College for Kids” this summer. Students will enjoy mornings of active, hands-on learning activities in subjects they choose, plus afternoon sports and recreation to unwind.
Students may choose a morning program of science, computers, Japanese, math, art, music or math, art and Spanish. Activities include swimming, gym, games, soccer and tennis. The fee includes a “College for Kids” T-shirt. The first session runs from June 16 through July 3 and the second session runs from July 7 through 25. Buy tickets for Grad Night
GILROY – Tickets are now on sale for “Grad Night,” a safe all-night lock-in for graduating seniors at Gilroy High School. Tickets can be purchased for $50 each at lunchtime from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Gilroy High School in room G3. Students need to turn in permission slips at time of purchase. Be a summertime champion
GILROY – Parents are invited to register their children for the Summertime Champions program to be held at Rod Kelley, El Roble and Luigi Aprea Elementary schools from Friday, June 16 through Friday, Aug. 22. Children ages 5 to 12 will be accepted.
The program offers educational activities including Camp Roadshow (theater and entertainment), Camp Express (literacy enrichment), Camp Nature-ific (environment and nature field trips) Camp Fit (sports and fitness), Challenge Program (individualized merit program), Camp Arts (creativity), Chef Camp (cooking and nutrition), Camp Tool Time (woodworking) and Camp Fact Finder (games and building models).

Choir sings at Giants game
GILROY – The Chamber Singers have been invited to sing the National Anthem on Friday, Sept. 26, at PacBell Park for the Giants/Dodgers game. The choirs have 300 tickets for that game available for sale. The tickets are upper reserved above left field and are available for $22. Checks are to be made out to the Gilroy High Choirs. New moms brunch
GILROY – The Gilroy Las Madres, an educational and social organization for the parents of infants, toddlers and preschool children, is hosting its annual New Members Brunch on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Goldsmith Seeds, 2280 Hecker Pass Highway.
Expectant mothers and moms of children up to the age of 5 are invited to attend the brunch to meet current members and learn about Las Madres. Nursing babies are welcome. RSVP to Lara Orradre at 842-9346.
Dubble Bubble contest
GILROY – Wal-Mart will host the third annual Dubble Bubble National Bubble Blowing Contest on Saturday, June 14. Kids ages 12 and under will compete to see who can blow the biggest diameter bubble gum bubble. Six finalists will be chosen to participate in the national finals. These six kids will compete for the Grand Prize of a $10,000 US savings bond and a $5,000 donation in the winner’s honor to the Children’s Miracle Network. Details:
