Gilroy – Police arrested a man believed to be an accomplice to a robbery last week.

Jose Manuel Yniguez, 25, a transient, was arrested at 8:30am Thursday, Feb. 17, at 350 Mantelli Drive, on suspicion of felony robbery and burglary. Police believe he acted as a lookout while Rick Schmitz, 32 – who was arrested following a search Wednesday night – held up the store using a replica handgun.

He had money in his possession at the time of the arrest, but it is unknown whether it was from the robbery, police said. The stolen $186 remains outstanding.

‘Lady Rams’ Luncheon benefits Gav women

Gilroy – Those who support women’s athletics programs are invited to attend the Inaugural 2005 “Lady Rams” Luncheon Wednesday from 12 to 1pm, at Eagle Ridge Golf Club.

The Keynote Speaker will be Ms. Janice Richard, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at San Jose State University.

Tickets are $35 per person.

All proceeds will benefit women’s athletics programs at Gavilan College. Gavilan College currently offers women’s programs in softball, basketball, and soccer. Under consideration this year is the addition of a women’s volleyball team.

Luncheon focuses on domestic violence

Gilroy – Community Solutions will host an Interfaith Luncheon focusing on domestic violence prevention on Wednesday, from 11:30am to 1pm at their Gilroy office, located at 6980 Chestnut St.

Join Community Solutions in collaborating forces as interfaith leaders and prevention advocates to identify strategies for ending domestic violence.

Eat, dance for youth group trip to Mexico

Gilroy – Margaritas, raffle prizes, good food and dancing to the music of the ’70s and ’80s will highlight a benefit evening for the St. Mary’s Youth Group Mexico Mission Trip on Saturday, from 6pm to midnight.

Tickets are $25 per person for the event to be held at Cullen Hall, 11 First Street, in Gilroy. Proceeds will help fund the annual trip to Mexico during which students build homes for residents of Tijuana’s poorest neighborhoods.

Toy Train Show and Swap Meet
