Many Gilroy residents have been protesting against the Amazon data center because it was approved under a 1981 ordinance that allowed only staff approval. The ordinance needs to be changed to require public hearings at both the Planning Commission and City Council level.
This way we can let our representatives know our thoughts and feelings.
It also gives them a chance to explain the pros and cons of the matter being considered and their vote.
This should be part of the public process required by the California Environmental Quality Act.
The ordinance modification is planned to be on the council’s agenda on Monday, Aug. 17. Please join me in asking the Councilmembers to require these vital public hearings at both levels.

I completely agree. It’s frustrating to see the City Council continue to spend our hard-earned tax dollars on policies and programs that seem to work against the very people they’re supposed to serve. WE, the taxpayers deserve accountability, transparency, and common sense, not endless spending on initiatives that create more burdens for our community. Our tax dollars should be used to strengthen our city and improve the quality of life for residents, not contribute to our own demise. And unfortunately, the Blue Skies Initiative is just another example. If you elect clowns, you get a circus.
