Her husband Dr. Anthony J. Giacalone preceded her in death in 1959. She was survived by her children and their spouses, Anthony T. and Mary Anne Giacalone, of Gilroy, Lawrence and Carolyn Giacalone, of Grass Valley, Paul and Eileen Giacalone, of San Jose, and Janet and Steve Yaninek, of West Lafayette, Ind. She was a loving grandmother to Anthony J. Giacalone II, Vince and Lisa Giacalone, Lisa and David Burns, Paul Giacalone, Gina and Keith Matthews, Joanna Giacalone, Marisa Yaninek, Evan Yaninek, Tom and Sheila Vincent and Steven Vincent. Josephine also loved her great grandchildren: Vince, Marcello and Vanessa Giacalone, Katie, Michael and Anthony Burns, Sean and Matthew Vincent. Josephine was also a loving stepmother to Gigi Taft, Gary and Joe Gemma Jr., Mary and Joe Bugna and loving step grandmother to all of their children.

In May of this year, Josephine moved to Gilroy, with her son Anthony and daughter-in-law Mary Anne, Josephine loved the company of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She espe-cially enjoyed spending time with her youngest great grandson Anthony Burns, age 3. They so loved their squirt-gun fights and fresh “MATOES” (tomatoes). In her last hours, she was tenderly cared for by her family and greatly loved by all.

A memorial service will be held at Lima Family Mortuaries today at 7 p.m., 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara. There will also be a Memorial Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, on Tuesday at 11 a.m., 4600 Hyland Ave., San Jose, with interment scheduled immediately thereafter with her husband at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St., Santa Clara. After the cemetery gathering a reception will be held at the San Jose Elks Club, 444 W. Alma Ave., San Jose.

In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Hospice Of The Valley, who helped with her care, or St. Joseph’s Center (Gilroy), Harvest Food Bank, or any other nonprofit organization that helps the less fortunate.
