Top-ranked team downs Dutchman’s Pizza, 7-5, to finish season at
8-0
GILROY – Radiator Doctor completed an 8-0 march through the Co-Rec Winter C League schedule Sunday with a 7-5 squeaker over Dutchman’s Pizza-Big Kahunas at Las Animas Park.
The top-ranked Doctor will face EKS Concrete-California Fun Jump at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 12 at Las Animas in the playoffs. The Kahunas face Just 4 Fun in the 6:40 contest, with the winners playing at 7:50 for the post-season title.
Danny Benz hit a run-scoring single as Dutchman’s-Big Kahunas struck for four runs in the second inning. Radiator Doctor gained the lead at 7-4 with a five-run explosion in the fourth that Rich Furtado capped with an RBI-single.
Benz doubled and scored the game’s final marker in the fifth on a Cheryl Baragona double. Jesse Marquez went 4-for-4 for thw winners.
Just 4 Fun (3-5) grabbed the third seed in the playoffs with a 14-11 decision over EKS Concrete-California Fun Jump (2-6).
Eddie Vargas and Art Naranjo each went 4-for-4 and combined to score seven Just 4 Fun runs. Joel Garcia drove in four Fun runs with three hits. Steven Gonzalez went 3-for-4, scored three runs with three RBI for EKS-California Fun Jump. Monica Melendrez went 4-for-4 with three RBI.
Foothills and Covenant each moved to 6-1 Sunday and will compete Thursday at 7 p.m. at Las Animas for the Co-Rec D League regular-season title.
Kathy Bennett went 4-for-4 and Larry Reimal followed with four singles as Foothills outlasted South Valley Newspapers 20-9. Dave Steffenson drilled a double and two singles for the Newspapers. Craig Deal added a single and double, scoring twice.
Covenant powered past Rush Order 11-7 behind a 4-for-4 night for John Day. Cory Casillas and Rich Adams each collected a single, double and triple for Covenant. Gary Perry went 3-for-3 for Rush Order.
