GILROY – Don’s Vending shook off its fourth seed for the playoffs, powering past two opponents Monday to win the Women’s Winter League championship at Christmas Hill Park.

The Vendors needed a victory over M&M’s last week to earn the final position in the post-season. The 5-3 mark earned the Vendors a first-round game against 8-0 Goldsmith Seeds. Don’s Vending turned a seven-run fourth inning into a 12-3 nod over the Seeds.

Don’s Vending completed the post-season sweep with a 6-3 victory over Marks Tractor Service.

Goldsmith and Don’s Vending will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Christmas Hill for the souvenir t-shirts presented to team members at the conclusion of that contest.

Goldsmith Seeds took a 2-1 lead in the second inning of Monday’s opener when Monica Samudio laced a two-run single to rightfield. Don’s Vending responded with seven runs in the fourth, including six with two out. Lydia Cano, Kathy Van Hoy and Corinne Casillas hit consecutive RBI-singles before Liz Adams completed the rally with a two-run double.

Casillas took team batting honors with three hits. Esmeralda Hernandez went 3-for-3 and Michelle Barry went 2-for-2 for Goldsmith Seeds.

Marks Tractor earned an 8-4 victory over Dutchman’s Pizza. Cathy Marks went 4-for-4 and drove in three Marks Tractor runs. Pauline Lemberger and Nikki Dequin each delivered three Marks hits, while Ana Cid-Chrisman scored three runs. Stephanie Johnston went 2-for-3 for Dutchman’s Pizza.

Casillas poked a two-run triple in a 3-for-4 effort for Don’s in the victory over Marks Tractor. Van Hoy added three hits, Celeste Soto and Vicki Velasquez two apiece for the winners. Nancy McDonald, Debbie Dunmyer and Cid-Chrisman managed two hits each for Marks Tractor.

The Tomcats defeated Westwood Barbers 23-8 to complete an 8-0 march through the Men’s Winter BB League Monday at Las Animas Park.

The Tomcats play the Enforcers at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Las Animas, while 6-2 Westwood Barbers take on Obata Farms at 7:40 p.m.

Rodney Sakai went 5-for-5 and Johnny Salgado homered in a 4-for-4 effort for the Tomcats. Steve Pacheco added a Tomcat home run. Rich Perez homered for the Barbers.

The Enforcers clinched a playoff spot with a 26-13 win over Deez Nutz. Joey Barnes and Brian Sullivan hit Enforcer homers. Mando Lerma and Willie Gamboa Jr. each drilled four hits for Deez Nutz.

Obata Farms secured the fourth seed at 4-4 with a 21-15 victory over Bike Center-DataMate Accounting. Jason Livingston hit two homers and Robert Silvia one in a four-hit performance for the Farmers. Lonnie Terrill hit a double and two singles for the 3-5 Bikers.
