Slammers steal ‘E’ title
GILROY – The Slammers, the third seed in the Men’s Winter E League playoffs, powered to two victories to claim the post-season title Tuesday at Christmas Hill Park.

After the Slammers edged the Boss Hawgs 8-6 in the semi-final, the Slammers exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat top-ranked Cosa Nostra 18-11.

The Slammers and Cosa Nostra play Friday at 7:40 p.m. at Christmas Hill Park for the souvenir t-shirts.

Cosa Nostra opened the triplebill with a 12-2 victory over VFW Bingo. Lupe Lemus capped a six-run Cosa Nostra first frame with a two-run triple. Matt McKay and Romero Marshall each collected two hits for VFW Bingo.

The Slammers built an 8-1 lead by the fourth inning and held on to edge the Boss Hawgs by two runs. Joe Duran singled and doubled for the Slammers. Hector Reyna went 2-for-2 and Anthony Bautista and Rudy Mendoza each scored twice for the Boss Hawgs.

David Espinoza’s two-run triple keyed the Slammer seventh inning against Cosa Nostra. Espinoza finished with two triples and a single, while Val Casillas stroked four Slammer hits. Roy Escudero went 3-for-3 and scored three Cosa Nostra runs.

The Good Fellas won the Men’s Winter C League crown with a 12-7 victory over VFW Vets Tuesday at Las Animas Park.

The Good Fellas combined seven hits with four Vets errors to score nine runs in the fifth inning and snap a 3-3 tie. Cameron Bautista went 3-for-3 and Charlie Muro singled and tripled for the Good Fellas. Mike Gonzalez Jr. and Daniel Montenegro each collected three hits for the Vets.

The Good Fellas opened the playoff series with a 17-3 nod over Las Animas Sweepers. Johnny Perez, Ruben Perez, Cameron Bautista and Gabe Duenas each delivered three Fellas hits. Kevin Orosco went 2-for-3 for Las Animas Sweepers.

The VFW Vets outlasted Guy’s Heating and Air Conditioning 17-14. Mike Montenegro hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh for the VFW Vets. Chris Hernandez homered and Daniel Montenegro went 4-for-5 for the winners. Jason Trujillo went 4-for-4 and Rick Trujillo 3-for-4 for Guy’s Heating.
