Host spikers finish second in Lady Mustang Invitational
GILROY – The Gilroy High girls volleyball team placed second in the Gold Division of the Lady Mustang Invitational over the weekend – finishing with a record of 5-1.

The lady spikers were second only to Arroyo Grande from San Louis Obispo – which was one of 12 competing schools. Behind the hosts in the Gold Division were third-place Half Moon Bay (5-1 tournament record) and fourth-place Scotts Valley (4-3 record).

Independence High won the Silver Division with Carmel in second, North Salinas in third, and Lincoln in fourth.

Gilroy produced four All-Tournament players – Kassi Thomas, Katherine Hussey, Lourella Palao, and Yanina Gonzalez.

“Coach (Sam Navarez) was very proud of all the girls,” Coach Susie Law said. “They worked hard and worked together.”
