Dear Editor:

This is in response to Michael Stevens’s letter to the editor regarding Gilroy High School Basketball. Michael needs to take a history lesson in GHS basketball.

The freshmen and junior varsity this year won the TCAL Championships. Last year GHS won the MBL Championship for varsity. I’d hate to burst Michael’s bubble, but he isn’t the first Brownell team to win the County Championship. The current sophomores at GHS accomplished this feat long before Michael stepped on the campus of Brownell. I’m certain that Michael most likely never attended any games at GHS this year and so he doesn’t understand what was accomplished by our teams. If he had attended the games, he would have seen a varsity team that competed in each game with only one player over the height of 6 feet two inches. They competed with Live Oak who had three players taller than 6 feet seven inches.

Did Michael see any of the freshmen or sophomores that he hopes to play with in the future? Before Michael gets too excited about the talent that is coming to GHS, he needs to understand that our talent is doing just fine without him.

Maybe we’ll see you on the court next year.

Former South Valley Player, Current Freshmen Player
